This is a collection of 4 lesson plans in total. 2 are lessons that each focus on an important black and disabled individual in American history and culture. The first lesson covers the life of Blind Willie Johnson, and influential blues musician from the early 1900s who's music was sent to space by NASA?as a potential message for Aliens. The second lesson focuses on Maya Angelou and?how she handled fear and anxiety throughout here life and career.?

The collection of lessons also includes 2 independent research projects for teachers to guide students through. The first project is a research project on a historical or modern black and disabled individual. This is a great lesson for a history class that wants students to engage with black history month while developing their research skills. The second project is a similar project, but it has students focus on a black and?disabled?artist.?

We hope you enjoy this collection of black history month lessons and we would appreciate it if you could provide us feedback for each lesson by following the links in the lesson plans.?
